     You won't want to miss this one-day trip to enjoy one of Virginia's oldest, most charming towns.  Start the trip with a stroll through the vendors of the exciting "Highland Festival," named as one of the top 100 tourist events in America.  You will find tents filled with unique arts and handmade crafts.  A delicious lunch will be served at the lovely Martha Washington Inn, followed by a matinee of "The Blue Sky Boys," at the historical Barter Theatre.  This play will answer any questions you might have about traveling to the moon. You will enjoy comical and serious theories by a group of maverick engineers as they attempt to land men on the moon and then return them to earth.  You will have visits from Apollo, the Red Baron, Galileo and Buck Rogers.  a thrilling and amazing adventure of the race to space which promises to be full of many surprises!  A fun-filled day for everyone!

    The cost of the trip is $100.00 for Y members and $110.00 for non-Y members and includes transportation by Abbott Motor Coach, lunch at the Martha Washington Inn and a theatre ticket.  Minimum trip capacity is 30 travelers and maximum is 50.  Please register and pay at the front desk of either Y location.  Payment is due by Wednesday, July 19, 2010.

PENNSYLVANIA TRIP

    Join us for another memorable YMCA getaway as we travel through the rolling hills of Pennsylvania and enjoy its beautiful fall foliage.  This charming area is located where life is simpler and the Amish traditions are robust has something to offer travelers of all ages!  Join us for this 3-day, 2 night trip departing at 7:30am on Tuesday, October 12th and returning on Thursday, October 14th at 9:00pm.  Transportation will be provided by Abbott Trailways and accomodations will be at the Hampton-Inn, located at 545 Greenfield Road, Lancaster, PA., 17601.  The telephone number is (717) 299-1200.  the hotel offers an exercise room and a hot/cold breakfast bar buffet.

    Once checked in to the hotel, our afternoon will be enjoyed at the spectacular Sight & Sound Theatres to see a matinee showing of "Joseph."  This new production is a story about dreams and the power of forgivenenss.  Audiences from all over are enjoying the innovative dream sequences, lavish staging, colorful characters and vibrant music.  If you've never seen a play at Sight & Sound then you are in for a real treat.  Following the play, dinner will be enjoyed at Miller's Smorgasboard, so be sure to save your appetite and enjoy this Lancaster taditions since 1929.

     After an evening of sweet dreams, your morning may either be spent shopping at one of Lancaster's many outlet malls or enjoy the Landis Valley Museum, a large outdoor museum of Pennsylvania German culture., folk traditions, decorative arts and language.  Enjoy the costumed interpreters as you stroll from one historical building to the next.  We will then take a horse-drawn wagon (weather permitting) to see the outskirts of the site and enjoy a delicious boxed lunch following the tour.  The lunch is included in the price of the trip.   Our afternoon will be spent touring the fascinating Amish country where we will learn about the history, religion, customs and way of life of the Old Order Amish.  We will view the Amish Country Hoemstead, take a guided tour of the Amish farmlands, and enjoy a family style Amish home-cooked meal.        Our final day will take us to the magical town of Hershey, Pennsylvania.  our tour will begin atThe Milton Hershy School, a school that Milton and Catherine Hershy established for impoverished orphans over 100 years go and still eists today for underprivileged students of various backgrounds.  Learn about the work ethics that were implemented when the school originally opened and are still being used today.  It's then onto the beautiful Hershy Hotel where we will enjoy a lovely lunch in the well known Circular Room followed by a tour of this very famous hotel.  Our trip wouldn't be complete without a tour of Hershey Chocolate World.  Enjoy a thrilling tour ride of the simulated chocolate factory which will end in a room full of chocolates so you can purchase your favorite Hershey candies before our departure for home!          The cost is $400.00 per person (Double Occupancy) for Y-members and $425.00 per for non Y-members.  (Please add $134.00 if you would like single occupancy.)  The price includes round trip transportation by Abbott Trailways, accomodations, all tours and all meals except for lunch on Tuesday and lunch on Wednesday for those who are taking the Landis Museum Tour.      

    A deposit of $75.00 per person is due by Friday, August 20, 2010 and the remaining balnce is due by Friday, September 10, 2010.  Cancellation policy is 100% refundable on total amount if made prior to Friday, September 10, 2010.  The Active Adult Coordinator must be notified.  Loss of deposited amount of $75.00 will incur if cancellation is made after Friday, September 10, 2010.  All registrations and payments may be made at the front desk of either the Jamerson YMCA or the Downtown YMCA.  Minimum trip capacity is 30 individuals and maximum trip capacity is 50 individuals.  should you have any questions, please call Mary Taylor,  Active Adult Coordinator for the YMCA at 582-1900.

YMCA BOOK CLUB

Book Club always meets on the second Wednesday of each month at 11:45am in the Jamerson Senior/Teen Room.   The next meeting will be on Wednesday, September 8, 2010.   It is always a good time for new members to join in the reading fun and they are always welcomed.  No need to pre-register, just show up!   The Book Club will not meet during the month of July or August.  Monthly meetings will resume in September.

YMCA BRIDGE CLUB

Bridge Club always meets on the 3rd Tuesday of each month and new members are always welcomed and are not committed to play each month.  Play will begin promptly at 1:00pm.  If you have played before (no need to be an expert) and are interested in meeting new friends, then join us for an afternoon of card playing fun!  Please pre-register by calling Mary Taylor one week in advance at 582-1900.           

         "Charlottesville, Virginia Trip"               Tuesday, September 28th

                      9:00am-5:00pm

       We have traveled to Charlottesville many times but have never enjoyed a tour of Jefferson's other famous landmark, the "University of Virginia Rotunda."  Join us on this one-day trip as we view Jefferson's academic design that was the heart and community of many of his scholars.  We will learn about the history of the "Rotunda" as well as the infamous "Lawn."

     Following the tour, we will travel to Michie's Tavern (1784) for a prime example of what it would be like to dine during the 18th century.  The buffet will include Colonial fried chicken, hickory smoked barbeque, a selection of six side dishes, biscuits, cornbread and fruit cobbler for desert.  Following our delicious meal, we will experience the Tavern's past through a  guided historical journey which recreates life when Mr. Michie operated his Inn.  We will tour the original inn, its outbuildings, as well as the Virginia Wine Museum.

     The cost is $40.00 for Y-members and includes transportation on the Y mini-buses, all tours and lunch.  All registrations and payments may be made at the front desk of either Y location.  Payment is due by Tuesday, September 21, 2010.  Minimum trip capacity is 14 and maximum is 28.
