Age Appropriate Experiences

YMCA Early Childhood care builds on children’s natural desire to learn new things and become more self-reliant. Getting along with other children, sharing, taking turns and working in a group are a natural part of playing games or learning a new craft.

For those times when you can’t be there yourself, the Y supports your efforts to nurture your child’s healthy development. Rest easy in knowing that the Early Childhood Center at the YMCA of Central Virginia is licensed by the State of Virginia and all child care staff members receive extensive training through the national YMCA as well as local Y.

YMCA Preschool care builds on a child’s natural desire to learn new things and become self-reliant. Getting along with other children, sharing, taking turns and working in groups are a natural part of playing games and learning new skills and the Y offers an exciting, challenging place for preschoolers to do just that. The YMCA Preschool is a safe, comfortable place where children build positive relationships with caring adults, and learn to stretch and grow in mind and body.

Preschool Curriculum

The YMCA Preschool curriculum The Y’s Way to Creative Curriculum in collaboration with The Creative Curriculum for Preschool www.teachingstrategies.com outlines the six core content areas identified in The Creative Curriculum and includes two additional areas specific to YMCAs. The content areas of our curriculum are: Literacy; Mathematics; Science; Social Studies; Arts; Technology; Healthy Habits; Social, Moral, and Spiritual Development. Through these content areas YMCA preschool is ensuring that all children in our care are able to grow in spirit, mind and body while enrolled in the program.

Our role as caregiver is directly focused on the development of the child through the early years. Our facility insures your child the opportunity to learn in a free, but cooperative manner.

Each child is given the necessary behavior tools to allow self-expression, while learning to be cognizant of the differences that make each individual unique.

As caregivers, we must create a learning process that is both interesting and filled with pleasant events that remain consistent with each child’s appetite for learning.
